After
a fire left forced it to close for five months, Il Vicolo reopened
in late 2007, & its fans will be pleased to know that apart
from a slightly sleeker look, little has changed. The jovial owner
remains on the floor to greet his guests, & the chef continues
to turn out hearty, flavour-packed Italian dishes. High-quality
ingredients & simple execution are key: a fresh starter of baby
squid with a lemon & chilli sauce or a chunky vegetable soup
could be followed by a creamy seafood risotto or juicy marinated
leg of lamb with mixed herbs and & garlic in a white wine sauce
- all washed down with a nice bottle from the all-Italian wine list.
The personal touch is everything here, & prices, considering
the location & quality of ingredients, are reasonable.
